One of the first long-term projects third graders complete is a written book review.  The children begin selecting interesting books to read during the month of October and have their choices approved by their classroom teachers.  When the children have finished reading their stories they complete a written rough draft that includes information about the main characters, setting, plot summary, plot high point and personal opinion of the book.  The children also draw favorite scenes from their books.  All of this information is shared with their teachers before a final copy is handwritten or word-processed by the students.

This year we added several technology pieces to publish their book reviews.  The children scanned their final drawings, typed the titles and authors of their books, and recorded favorite parts of their reviews for others to hear using GarageBand.  Working with Carol Siwinski, curricular technology coordinator, the children then created their own web pages using Dreamweaver. These projects reflect much time and effort.  Please enjoy these wonderful projects and learn about books you might like to read too.
