Basket Maker

Thank goodness she did not see me! I am soaking these fibers to make a basket for Mistress Trippet. I am sorry I did not see you there. My name is Sarah. I am a basket maker. This is how I make a basket. First I collect pine straw, animal hair, or branches from a tree. Then get a knife and I carve the bark off the branch and put it in water to make it flexible. Every few hours I have to see if the branch is flexible. Once the wood bends, then I begin to weave it into a basket. Then I make a long handle out of heartwood. I get nails and a hammer from the blacksmith. That’s why my shop is close to the cooper and the blacksmith. Okay, then I would hammer the nails in and I would have a basket. If you want to make it different colors I would get some herbs and add water.. Fine herbs make the water a different color. Do you know that I have a master? She does a lot of he work in the shop. I am an apprentice and in seven years I will become a master. Excuse me; I have to get back to making Mistress Trippet’s basket and hide from Mistress Allison.
