Silversmith

Oh Hello …

Have you seen my apprentice? He was supposed to be getting me some coins.

I am the town silversmith, Paul Revere.

I am finishing polishing these forks and spoons. I have been working on these all  day.

Let me tell you about the process:

Yesterday, I got some coins and melted them in the forge. Did you know a forge is a really hot oven?  It melts the silver coins in one day.

I pour the melted silver into a mold.  Before I go any further, I put the tongs on the silver to keep it steady. When it cools, I file the rough edges.
Then, I hammer the lumpy sides and edges and shape it more into place.

Next, I design the object into what looks good.  And last, I use a ladle to carve the extra silver out and take the tongs off and I’m finished.  I give it to the person who brought me the coins. This is how wealthy people saved their money because we do not have banks.

Some of the prodects I make are:
forks, knifes, spoons, cups, plates, trays, tea sets, salt and pepper shakers, and some of my own tools.

The hardest part of my job is design. It is hard to get the design even on both sides.

It is now time to close my shop.  Good Evening.
