The Manor House
By: Paige K.

Penn built his house with 11 rooms! He built it with so many rooms because he had a pretty big family that came with him to Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania means “Penn’s Wood’s.” He named Pennsylvania after his father, his father died in 1670. Penn brought his second wife to Pennsylvania. Her name was Hannah Callowhill. He built his house by the Delaware River, because instead of using a car and a road to get around, they used a BOAT and a RIVER to get around. He had many visitors, that is another reason he had a big house. They also had LOTS of servants! Hannah and her friends would go in Hannah’s closet. A long time ago they mixed up words, so a closet was the sitting room. That’s what we call it now. They would drink tea and sew. Penn’s friends were called Quaker’s. They would stay in the study and have meetings and drink HOT CHOCOLATE!
