  1. In colonial times people made soap out of wood ashes and animal fat.
  2. No one thought soap should be shipped over from England because the new settlers made it.
  3. In colonial times lye was in soap.
  4. Lye was a very strong chemical.
  5. Lye damaged peoples skin a lot.
  6. Rich people had soap with fragrances.
  7. The fragrances were made from flowers.
