It was a crisp and cool day as Germantown Academy
students went on a field trip to Pennsbury Manor, the country home of William Penn.
Penn preferred living in the country rather than the city and left detailed accounts
of his happy life facing the Delaware.
The field trip is the opening of our Colonial Unit. The
children learned many surprising things about life on a 17th century
plantation.

Take
our Tour of Pennsbury Manor

|
- Be courteous!
- Listen respectfully.
- It is ok to take pictures except in the manor house*.
- Eat only in the picnic grove.
- Do not climb.
- The guides will let you use some reproductions. Do not touch
anything else!
- Please do not bother the animals.
*The manor house contains many authentic artifacts. The lights
from a flash can damage them.
The original Pennsbury Manor was destroyed after many years of
neglect. The manor has been recreated. Fortunately, Penn had left many letters,
ledgers and journals describing every day life at Pennsbury. The furnishings in the
Manor house are authentic to the period.
