Third grade is a year of considerable growth academically and socially. The third grade program continues to develop the basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. Teachers encourage individual students in all areas by using concrete materials and their own experiences to make learning an increasingly meaningful process.

In third grade, students continue to discover and develop their own potential as human beings. Teachers endeavor to build an atmosphere of respect for oneself and recognition of the rights of others. We encourage students to assume more responsibility for their own learning and for their belongings. We help students learn how to take responsibility for their actions and for their behavior. Our watchwords in third grade are kindness, respect, and responsibility.

Third graders are taught various problem solving and conflict resolution strategies so that they may learn how to solve problems both academic and social. These strategies can be utilized on the playground as well as in the classroom. Children are encouraged to work with their peers as well as individually in order to complete assignments and solve problems.
