| Reviewer: Andrew L. '08 The Big Bazoohley is about Sam Kellow and his parents, Vanessa and
Earl. His father is a gambler, and bets anything and everything he owns. His mother
is a painter. The family comes to Toronto to sell one of her paintings to Edward DeVere.
Sam's mother's paintings are especially amazing because they are all smaller than a
matchbox, but they contain a whole city in the picture. Sam's father had spent all of the
family's money except for $43.20, which was all the Kellow family had left in the world.
They decided to stay at the very expensive Redwood Hotel. During the middle of the night,
Sam sleepwalks out of his room and is locked out. His parents don't hear him and when he
knocks on another door, a lady grabs him and he is taken into the room. He soon learns
that he has to compete in a contest for the "Perfecto Kiddo" shampoo, because
the lady's son is sick. They style his hair really nicely, manicure his nails, bathe and
scrub him until he is shining, teach him to dance, and make sure he can eat spaghetti the
appropriate way. What happens at the contest? Is Sam ever reunited with his family? I
don't want to spoil the ending, but it was a good one!
I highly recommend this book to my classmates for entertaining and
funny reading.
