The
Black Cauldron
by Lloyd Alexander is a medieval fantasy book about an evil man named
Arawn in the land of Prydain. Arawn has a growing army with soldiers
that never die. These soldiers are reborn in the Black Cauldron as evil
monsters from the bodies of good slain soldiers. The Black Cauldron
is a mythical pot of pure evil. Taran, who is an assistant pig-keeper
in Prydain, decides to join an expedition to destroy the Black
Cauldron to save Pyrdain.
I would rate this book a six out of 10 because it had a great plot and a
lot of good guys who turn bad. However, the down side is that you don't
know who is who because there are a lot of guys with weird names and it
is hard to keep track of everyone. If you want to read a really good
fantasy book, I would recommend reading the Lord of the Rings
trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien first.

The Black Cauldron is one of the most exiting fantasy books you'll ever read. It's about a
young boy, Taren, who is the Assistant pig-keeper of Caer Dallben. He and his companions
Fflewddur Fflam, Doli of the fair folk, Gurgi, Eilonwy, and many more go to seek the
dreadful Black Cauldron. In their adventures to find the Cauldron Taren learns the meaning
of friendship and how hard work pays off. I recommend this book to all ages.
Happy Reading!

| Reviewer: Sara M. '07 The Black Cauldron is about Taran, an Assistant Pig
Keeper. He sets out with Gwydion (a prince who he met in the first book, The Book of Three), and lots more people, to get the
black cauldron out of Arawn, the Death Lord, and away from his realm. Taran and some of
his friends, and a new found enemy, Ellidyr to stay back and be there for the group going
into Arawns realm. (This includes Gwydion.)
The only trouble is that the cauldron is gone!
Tarans group is about to go back when Arawns warriors attack. The group hides
and then escapes. While they hide, a crow tells them where the cauldron is. Taran decides
to go after it. On the way, Ellidyr runs to go find it himself, and Adaon, a wise member
of the group dies, leaving Taran a brooch that makes him wise.
When the subdued group finds the cauldron, the people who
have it are not willing to give it up. What will Taran do? Read The Chronicles of
Prydain series!
