Alfie is an elementary
school student who lives with his mother and his senile, nostalgic grandfather. He lives
in the attic of his house anddraws cartoons. His older brother, Bubba, is going to move
back home, which means Alfie has to move out of his attic room so his brother can live
there. To stop this from happening, Alfie shuts himself in the attic, surviving on
crackers and fruit juice. Alfie's mother can't convince him to come out. At
this point in the book, I feel the author does not continue the story's action. The
ending does not solve the problem and the verbal abuse from his mother makes me
uncomfortable. It is not my most favorite book.
