Hannah thinks that her family’s Passover Seder is boring because they do the same things all the time, and tell the same stories over and over again. But that night when Hannah opens the door to welcome the prophet Elijah she is transported back in time to the year 1942. At first Hannah thinks that it is just the wine as tonight was the first time she got to drink it. But soon she realizes that she is back in time and her name is now Chaya. This so called Chaya seems to be recovering from a major sickness and has lost just about all of her memory. When Chaya her family and her friends are taken to a Nazi Concentration camp, she is the only one who knows what will happen. But Chaya has forgotten her memory from her sickness and everyone thinks she is talking gibberish. Will she gain the confidence of her people? Is she really living during the Second World War? You’ll have to read the book to find out.

Hannah Stern is a girl who hates going to her family Seder every year on Passover. One time, while Hannah opens the door for Elijah, the prophet, she gets transported into the past. When Hannah sees the figures in the green coats, she knows the Nazis are coming for the Jews; and only she knows what awaits her and her people.

I loved The Devil’s Arithmetic and would recommend it to everyone. It is a book that surprises you every time you turn a page.

The Devil’s Arithmetic is about a girl named Hannah who goes back in time to the era when Adolph Hitler is persecuting Jews. Hannah is one of the Jews who gets taken into a concentration camp. The book explains what life is like in the camp. How will Hannah get home? Read to find out.

I felt a lot of different emotions while reading this book. I thought The Devil’s Arithmetic is a good book because it told a lot about that time in history.
