As
most people know, the 2005 Super Bowl, (Super Bowl XXXIX)
was won by the New England Patriots 24-21 against the Philadelphia
Eagles. This championship marks the third time in four years
that New England won the Super Bowl, making the word “dynasty”
come to mind. But before these three titles, the Patriots,
or Pats, only made it to two Super Bowls and never won. The
Pats were heavily favored against the Eagles, were barely
the favorite in 2004, and in their first Super Bowl title,
they overcame Vegas’s line of them being a ten point
underdog! And the book, The Impossible Team by Nick
Cafardo, is all about the “miracle” of ’01,
starring an improbable second string Quarterback, a legend
falling, a mad scientist coach, and a team fighting for respect.
No one thought
the New England Patriots would even make the ’01 playoffs,
let alone the Super Bowl. Even Nick Cafardo, author of Impossible
Team didn’t think so. And when star Quarterback
Drew Bledsoe nearly died on a tackle, and would be out for
the rest of the year, pats fans were getting ready for the
draft in April. But, to their credit who would have guessed
that a 6th round draft pick (out of 7 rounds) from Michigan
named Tom Brady lead a team that was 5-11 the year before
to the Super Bowl? And two coaches by the names of Bill Belichick
and Charlie Weis thought of so many ways to trick opponents,
the Pats were scoring TDs during timeouts (Metaphor)J J! But
although all of these people’s efforts, the season and
the Super Bowl came down to kicker Adam Vinatieri. With 2
seconds left in the Super Bowl, the score tied, the kick goes
up AND IT’S… GOOOOOOOD!!!!!! PATS ARE CHAMPS!!!!
I know that you’re
all probably Eagles fans, but this book is for any Football
Fanatic, and I bought my copy at the dollar store, Dollar
Tree©, for $1.00. This feat was nearly impossible, and
if you don’t believe it, read Impossible Team by
Nick Cafardo.
