This journal about Patrick Seamus Flaherty is in
parts gory and horrifying. Patrick is an 18-year-old Marine fighting
in the Vietnam War. Through this book Patrick shares his experiences
on the battlefield and with the other soldiers. This poor kid goes
through the war untouched until he is in the rear (behind all of the
action) and his tent gets hit with a rocket. His left arm gets blown
apart and he loses his best friend. At the end of the book he says,
"What else is there to say?" and leaves you just hanging there. I like
that because I get to pick what will happen to him when he gets home.
I really like this book and recommend it to people
who are interested in what really happens in war. Happy Reading
