Mickey and
Me, by Dan Gutman, is about a boy named Joe Stoshack,
who can travel back in time using baseball cards. His dad
tells him to go back to 1951 and stop Mickey Mantle from tripping
over a drain on the field, getting injured, and ruining his
career. Joe tries to go back to 1951, but Samantha, his stupid
little cousin, switches cards, and Joe winds up in 1944 instead.
Read the book to find out what troubles Joe will find in 1944.
I love all of Dan
Gutman's sports books. This is no exception.

One day Joe Stoshack’s
dad gets in a serious car accident. Joe’s dad gives
Joe a Mickey Mantle baseball card and tells him to use it
wisely. Joe decides that he will go back in time to get Mickey’s
autograph to give to his dad. You see, Joe can travel back
in time with baseball cards to the year of the card he is
holding. When Joe is about to leave, his annoying cousin switches
his card with a softball player. Joe ends up being the softball
team's official mascot. He even gets to play in the World
Series dressed up as a girl during the time when girls played
on baseball teams as substitutes for the players who were
away fighting in the war. He goes through many adventures
with the team. At the end of the story, Joe meets a boy. They
tell each other that they play baseball. The boy says they
should exchange autographs, so that if one of them becomes
a baseball star when they grow up they will have each other's
autographs. Joe gets home and looks at the signature and it
says, “Mickey Mantle.”
I recommend this
book to anyone who likes baseball, history, and adventure.
I would rate this book a nine out of a possible score of ten.

I read Mickey
and Me by Dan Gutman. Joe Stoshack, the main character,
has a special power that allows him to travel through time
using baseball cards. While visiting his dad in the hospital
after a car accident, his dad gives him a 1951 Mickey Mantle
rookie card that was cleverly hidden in an envelope under
a floorboard. He tells Joe that he has to travel back in time
to save Mickey Mantle from getting injured during a game.
Joe tries to travel back in time while baby-sitting his 7-year
old cousin. Without Joe knowing, she switches one ofhis cards
with one of hers. He ends up in a very surprising place!
I would recommend
this book to people who like surprises and sports history.
I enjoyed reading this exciting book especially because of
my own enjoyment of baseball.

When Dan visits
his Dad in the hospital after an accident, his dad tells him
about a Mickey Mantle rookie baseball card that is hidden
in Dan's room under a loose board. With this baseball card
he is able to travel through time. His dad wants Dan to warn
Mickey about the sprinkler that Mickey hurt his leg on in
the World Series. But, his little cousin slips a Mickey Maguire
card in his hand before he leaves, so Dan ends up traveling
back to 1944 instead of 1951!
Learn about what happens when he gets there, and you learn
about who was playing baseball in 1944 while all the men were
at war. I recommend this book to people how like sports and
enjoy a little adventure.
