| On holiday in Cornwall, Simon, Jane, and
Barney find a mysterious map in the attic of their rented house. The three have a strange
feeling that the map leads to something extraordinary that they don't know about. They ask
their Uncle Merry who says it is a map from the time of King Arthur. It leads to a
grail, a source of power to fight the forces of evil, also known as the Dark. The
three search for this grail, but they are being followed by the Dark. Who will reach
the grail first, the Dark or the Good? Read the book to find out. I really enjoyed this book because it is both scary and
funny. It is scary when a burglar sneaks into the house where the children are
staying and makes a shambles of the place, but steals nothing. It is funny when
Barney is eating an apple and he chucks the core in the dusty attic. When Jane
forces Barney to go pick it up, they find the map instead. I really like Susan
Cooper's descriptive style of writing.
