This book is the
sequel to The Bad Beginning.
The Baudelaire orphans now have a new guardian, Uncle Monty.
He is the Baudelaire's nicest guardian, yet. Uncle Monty is
a scientist who is obsessed with snakes and other reptiles.
He has his own private laboratory. The Baudelaires are very
happy living with Uncle Monty, until a disguised Count Olaf
arrives at the front door looking for the Baudelaire fortune.
He is disguised as one of Uncle Monty's laboratory assistants
named Stephano. Uncle Monty starts to get suspicious, and
the children know that Stephano is really Count Olaf from
the moment they see his face. Before the Baudelaires know
it, Count Olaf kills Uncle Monty in the middle of the night
using a needle and snake venom. The Baudelaires need help
and call the authorities. What will happen? Will Count Olaf
get away? There's only one way to find out... read the book!!
On a scale from
1-10 (10 being the best) I rate this book an 8 because the
book is outstanding and is very fun to read. I recommend this
book to people who like it when sad and unfortunate events
occur. Spring

Violet, Klaus,
and Sunny Baudelaire are orphans who once lived in a big mansion
until their parents die in a fire. Their previous foster parent,
Count Olaf, is an evil, rude, and greedy person who is after
the Baudelaire fortune. His plan fails.
In this book, the
orphans are sent to live with Montgomery Montgomery. (No,
I didn’t make a mistake in typing that is his real name!)
He is a world famous herpetologist. (Someone who studies snakes.)
There is something fishy about Uncle Monty’s new assistant,
Stephano. He has shiny eyes and a tattoo of an eye on his
ankle- both traits of despicable Count Olaf. Is Stephano really
Count Olaf? If he is, is he planning a devilish plan to steal
the fortune?

Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire are
now living with Uncle Monty, a reptile scientist. He
has an extremely deadly viper which is really not extremely
deadly after all. It's actually a very good friend of
Sunny's. She likes to play with it. But the problem
is not with the viper. It's with Uncle Monty's new secretary.
The new secretary is ... I can't tell you, so read the
book to find out what Count Olaf does this time.

A. '09 Since Count Olaf is much too dangerous, Mr. Poe has to find
the next nearest relative of the Baudelaire children.
They go to live with Montgomery Montgomery ( a.k.a Uncle Monty).
To their delight, he is actually quite nice. But Count
Olaf is at it again. He signs up to be Uncle Monty's
secretary when the regular one supposedly quits. Uncle Monty
is a snake expert. Count Olaf sets up an evil scam to
get him out of the way so he can again try to get the Baudelaire
fortune. He makes it seem as if a poisonous snake bites
Uncle Monty, but he really takes one of Uncle Monty's poisons
and injects it into him. Uncle Monty keeps the poisons
from deadly snakes so he can study them. Count Olaf
makes two holes so it seems as if a snake bites him.
Luckily, the children find out and get evidence to prove it.
But once again, Count Olaf (a.k.a. Stephano) gets away.
I think this book is just as exciting
as the first one!

| Reviewer: Joeylyn Y. '09 The Reptile Room is the second book in the Series
of Unfortunate Events. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire
are placed with a kind and caring uncle named Monty. Suddenly
Uncle Monty's assistant quits and a new assistant arrives
named Stefano. Stefano has the same tattoo as Count Olaf,
the bad guy in the first book. Is Count Olaf back in disguise
to steal the Baudelaire's fortune? You'll have to read
the book to find out!
I recommend this book to anyone who likes
suspense. It is a real page turner!

| Reviewer: Allison S. ' 09 The
rich parents of the Baudelaire children -- Sunny, Klaus, and
Violet -- die in a fire. The children have to stay with
the closest living relative. That is Mr. Montgomery
Montgomery (Uncle Monty) who studies snakes. Count
Olaf, the evil man who has an eye tatoo on his ankle,
wants to steal the children's money. He's at it again.
He becomes Uncle Monty's assistant so he can be closer
to the children. Suddenly, Uncle Monty dies
and the orphans know that Count Olaf has killed him.
They need some evidence before Mr. Poe, who's
in charge of where the children live, will believe them.
Count Olaf wants to take the Baudelaire's to Peru
with the plane tickets Uncle Monty had so he can steal the
money in a country where no one will care. Will the
Baudelaire's be able to find evidence about the murder?
Will Mr. Poe send them to live with another relative before
it's too late?
I'd
recommend this book to children who like suspense, adventure,
and mystery. The book is exciting all the way
through. This series is the best one I've ever
read!

The three Baudelaire children have found a new guardian.
His name is Dr. Montgomery Montgomery. The children are a
little unsure about staying with someone named Montgomery
Montgomery. Dr. Montgomerys new assistant looks very
familiar to the children. As they take a closer look at him,
they realize that he is their former guardian, the evil Count
Olaf! This man is after their family fortune, and will do
anything to get it! Will he overpower the children and Dr.
Montgomery to steal the fortune? Read the book and find out.

The Reptile Room is about the Baudelaire children
who are now living with their Uncle Monty because Count Olaf
, their guardian, is a very bad person who always threatens
them. He says that he will kill all of them and get their
fortune. Now they are living with their uncle, a scientist
who studies snakes, and they all plan to go to Peru in search
of snakes to add on to his collection. His partner is murdered
by Count Olaf, and then a disguised Count Olaf takes his spot
saying that he is a scientist. One day before they go to Peru,
Count Olaf kills Uncle Monty, and says it was a snake who
bit him. Violet finds out that he put the venom of a snake
into Uncle Monty and said the snake bit him. Does Count Olaf
get away this time? |

Following
a series of unfortunate events, the three Baudelaire orphans,
14 year-old Violet, 12 year-old Klaus, and Baby Sunny move
to the house of their distant Uncle Montgomery. After only
a few short days of happiness and security, a familiar evil
face reappears to threaten their lives once again, and their
adventures and mishaps continue.
I would highly recommend The Reptile Room because
it combines suspense and humor in a story about clever kids
who successfully cooperate together and use their resources
to fight an evil villain.
