When
My Name Was Keoko
is a good book. This book is about a painful chapter in Korean
history during 1940. It is about a Korean family. The Kims
have to survive in spite of Japanese discrimination during
World War II. The young girl in the family, Sun-hee, is ignorant
and doesn't really understand everything that the Japanese
do. Her brother, Tae-yul, does. Tae-yul joins the Japanese
army and becomes a kamikaze pilot in order to show the strength
of the Korean people. The rest of the family has to stay home
and fight for their equality. I really enjoyed this book even
though it was very sad.
