This is a very interesting and exiting book. In the
book Soldiers Heart, 15-year-old Charley Goddard enlists in the
army and goes to fight the Rebels in the Civil war. He experiences
victory and death. He goes through almost every battle in the
war except for Bull Run, because during that time he was suffering
from Dysentery. At Gettysburg he is wounded badly but survives.
When he comes out of the war at the age of 19 he is said to have a
"Soldiers Heart," although he dies at the age of 23 because his wounds
do not heal properly.
I enjoyed this book and recommend it to people who
don't cry easily and people who like to read about real war.

| Reviewer: Tucker C. '10 I read the book Soldier's Heart by Gary
Paulsen . It is about a fifteen-year-old boy going fight in the Civil War in 1860.
He has to lie about his age so he won't miss the action. Though many hardships await him,
is he really ready for his death? I like the book because I like the way the
author described the gruesome battles.

| Reviewer: Jeff B. '06 Soldiers Heart is a book about the Civil War.
Charlie, who was fifteen, thought he would be missing out on a great experience if he
didnt lie about his age and volunteer. This book talked about the Civil War in the
most horrific way; you felt like you were on the battlefield. Charlie lost a lot of
friends while fighting and the book talked about the mental anguish survivors went
through. I thought it was a good book and I would recommend it to someone who likes
historical fiction.
