By Jess H.

The purpose of this experiment was to determine the effect of different kinds of plant food on the height and amount of leaf growth of Basil plants. In order to do this experiment a light fixture was set up. Also 25 Basil seeds were planted. The plants were split into five groups once they had grown 3 cm. Each group was fed with different plant foods such as, Fish Emulsion, Schultz, Miracle-Gro, Frank's, and Water . All of the plants were fed the same amount of fertilizer twice a day. To under go this experiment all the plants were exposed to 12 hours of daylight. This experiment lasted for 3 weeks.

After finishing this experiment it was discovered the Fish Emulsion was the most effective plant food. It had a total growth of 2 cm. Schultz fertilizer was very close to Fish Emulsion with an average growth of 1.5 cm. The control, water did not contain enough of the essential nutrients needed by Basil to survive. Therefore it was not the most effective plant food.
