The Durability of Different Fabric Knits

By Kira B

The purpose of this experiment was to discover which material (cotton knit, wool knit, nylon, chenille) showed the most durability. Twenty-five swatches of each fabric were washed with laundry detergent and bleached to carry out this experiment. The fabric samples were washed thirty times in a washing machine to find out how durable each one was. A scale of change was used to measure the change in the fabric samples, from 1 to 5.

After the experiment was completed, it was found that cotton knit proved to be the most durable, having no change from when it had not been treated with the laundry detergent and the belach. Wool knit was second, for it had very little change from the beginning of the experiment. Nylon was third, but it had significant damage. Chenille proved to be the least durable fabric of the four, with a complete change from the start of the experiment. It had drastically changed.
