Keyboards: Do They Make a Difference?
Quinn C.

The purpose of this experiment was to determine which of three types
of keyboards was easiest to locate keys on. The procedure was simple. Subjects
"typed" on each of the three keyboards for one minute each by
locating keys and recording. The data collected indicated that the QWERTY
keyboard has an average word per minute rate of six. The Dvorak keyboard
has an average word per minute rate of three. The alphabetical keyboard
has an average word per minute rate of four. The conclusion is, therefore,
that the QWERTY keyboard is the easiest to locate keys on compared to the
other two keyboard simulations under the existing test conditions.
