The purpose of this experiment was to see if recorded sound would affect the growth of plants. To carry out this experiment, two blank audio tapes were recorded on. One of the tapes included the rock music of Nine Inch Nails, the other include the classical music of Mozart. Also, 105 pea seeds of the Knight variety were planted among 3 trays. The seeds were planted 3 cm. deep in the soil, 4 cm. from each other. The trays were watered weekly, and the plants were placed under a sun lamp for about 12 hrs.
Each tray was labeled either "Rock", "Classical", or "Control". The two experimental groups (Rock and Classical), were exposed to 2hrs. a day of their respective music.
It was found that recorded sound does in fact affect plant growth. The two experimental groups were larger in height than the control group. The rock group was 18 cm. tall, the classical was 17.5 cm. tall, and the control group was 16 cm. tall.
