The purpose of this experiment was to find the differences in the amount of smoke aerosol between the different types of cigarettes. To preform this experiment, a experimental smoking kit was borrowed. Three packs of cigarettes were purchased as well. A pack of light cigarettes, a pack of regular cigarettes, and a pack of unfiltered cigarettes. Ten of each type of cigarette was smoked by the machine. A stopwatch was used to record the time it required to smoke each cigarette. After each cigarette was smoked, the filter was removed from the machine. The amount of aerosol was measured in milligrams.
After completing the experiment, it was found that the light cigarettes had the least amounts of aerosol, with 22.7 mg. The filtered cigarettes had an exorbitant amount of aerosol with 28.5 mg. per cigarette. Therefore, the filters were efficient, when compared to the unfiltered cigarettes.
