The purpose of this experiment was to see if the nutrients in a potato could affect the growth of plants.
To carry out the experiment plants were grown. The first step of the experiment is to put 18 scoops of Perlite Seeding soil and 54 cups of Potting Soil all into a shopping bag. When the soil was thoroughly mixed it was put into 18 different pots. Then 9 red potatoes were cut open in half with a knife. A little hole was made in the potatoes and a seed was put into the holes. The potatoes were then put into the pots and the remaining pots only had seeds put into them. Half a cup of water was put into each pot daily. The plants were measured every two days with a ruler in mm.
At the end of the experiment it was found that the plants without the potatoes in them outgrew the other plants. The results were 61 to 0, 35 to 30, 28 to 25, 32 to 0, 51 to 0 , 60 to 40, and 35 to 32mm. The potato cause theplant not to grow very well. The normal plant grew faster and that concludes that the vitamins in potatoes don't help to grow plants.
