You are an adult native speaker of French (you can choose any stage in life, from graduation from a university to just prior to retirement) and you are about to relocate within or to another French-speaking country. During the course of the next three months you will write three letters to Salut a listserv which has been set up for this purpose. (Please refer to due dates below.) You will then respond to two of the letters posted by your classmates. You are writing each of these letters in the personnage which you have assumed.
1. Create your personnage. This autobiographical data will form the basis for your three letters.
2. Choose the specific place where you are going to relocate and use the Internet to research information about your city.
3. You will write three letters in the personnage you have assumed to Salut the listserv addressing the following issues. These letters will also be read by Mr. David and will be returned to your private e-mail address with a grade.
In this first letter you will introduce yourself, explain why you have had to relocate, and describe your selection of housing (apartment versus house, price, description of your new residence, how you dealt with the issue of furniture, etc.)
In this letter you will describe your new local. Include information about activities for leisure time, food, restaurants, museums, etc.
In this last letter you will discuss your professional life and your future career plans.
4. You will respond to two letters, in the personnage you have assumed, through the Salut listserv, according to the following due dates. Each response should have the name of the personnage and the word "response" in the subject area of the message heading.

You will create the autobiographical data for your personnage that will form the basis of all your letters.
You are to use the resource links given in this webquest or any other resources you have found to address the issues of each letter.
In each of your letters you are to write a minimum of four (4) well-developed paragraphs. Each letter should include the name of the resources and the URL for each resource that you have used to garner your information. Take your time as you compose these letters. Think carefully about the structure and content and the order in which you choose to present the information. Does the information in each paragraph explain, support, describe? If the sentence structure seems complicated, it probably is and therefore difficult for your classmates to understand. Try to simplify.
In Letter 1 you should introduce yourself and explain the reason for your relocation. Using the classified ads from your local newspaper, decide on your type of housing and describe your new residence. You may also wish to discuss how you dealt with packing, purchasing new furniture, transitional housing, and your feelings surrounding the move.
In letter 2, using the resource links, local newspapers etc., you will describe your new environment. Include information about your new city. This could include special attractions, leisure time activities, food, shopping, restaurants, museums, etc.
Letter 3 can discuss your professional life and your future career plans. In order to do this you will need to research and use vocabulary appropriate to your assumed profession.
- Remember that your letters are to be posted to the listserv. To address a letter to the listserv in the "To" area of your message, type Salut. Before posting, proofread your letter carefully. Post what you consider to be your best French.
It is imperative that you meet the due date for each letter. People can not respond if letters are not posted on time.
After each posting, you are to read all letters. You will then choose two letters to which you would like to respond. Your response should be a minimum of one well-composed paragraph. This response will be posted to listserv and the "subject" should include the personnage name and the word "response."

During the course of this project, you will learn how to use the internet resources to research a city/region in the French-speaking world. You will become proficient in the use of Eudora, your e-mail application, as you work with both private and public e-mail. You will become an expert in the area where your personnage lives. You will learn about housing, entertainment, leisure time activities, food, etc... and you will learn some French expressions to describe your chosen professions. You will have the opportunity to write and read extensively as you compose your own letters and responses and read all the postings of your classmates. Moreover, as you read your classmates' letters, you will further expand your knowledge about many French-speaking regions of the world.
