Students will create a fictitious health resort in a francophone country of their choice (France, Belgium, Switzerland, Ivory Coast, Guadaloupe, etc.). They must choose a location within the country for their resort (at the seashore, in the mountains, in the city, in the country, on a farm, in a castle, in a rain forest...). They must familiarize themselves with the local surroundings and attractions in order to provide a unique experience for their guests. Students must decide what kind of resort they will promote (weight loss, gourmet cooking, exercise, relaxation, sport, language learning). In order to attract clients, they must prepare a power point presentation that highlights all the features and activities their resort has to offer. A written script of the presentation will be given to the teacher for corrections before the power point presentation is given in class.

  1. Students will choose a francophone country and a location within their country for their resort. They will then decide what type of resort they will promote and invent a name for the resort, including address and telephone number.
  2. Students will research their countries or locations using the Internet resources provided.
  3. In your LAN account, you will create a document in Word in which you will take notes on each resource used with appropriate annotations.
  4. Students will write the script for their presentation keeping in mind which sections they would like to illustrate in their power point presentation. They may refer to the comment dit-on, vocabulaire, and grammaire sections in Chapter 7 of Allez, viens! Level 2 for helpful expressions and useful structures.
  5. Students will hand in their completed script on November 6, 2000.
  6. Students will decide what features to highlight in their slide presentation of at least 8 slides. They should describe the meals served and the activities offered, and tell how each is beneficial to the participants. They should also mention any local attractions, places of interest, special cuisine, or traditions that would appeal to perspective guests. Students will be ready to present their slide show the week of December 4, 2000.
  7. To access graphics on the web, you will return to your note cards to find the address saved. Select the address and paste it into the location area of Netscape. When the graphic appears, click and hold the image and select "copy this image." You may then return to PowerPoint to paste it on your card.
  8. Students must gain permission to use copyrighted graphics by writing to the author of the site. These permissions need to be part of your bibliography.
  9. The bibliography should be according to the MLA citation rules and hyperlinked to the source where appropriate.
  10. All work will be evaluated based on the successful completion of the attached rubric.
