The colonial American that is the subject of this stamp is Pocahontas. There is a lot of imfomation that is thought to be true, but really isn't. This is the true story of Pocahontas.

Pocahontas was born in 1596, in America, in Virginia. She died in 1617, in England, she was 21 years old.

Pocahontas and her family had tan skin and black hair. Pocahontas was very curious and liked to do things her way. Pocahontas's family was probably popular because her father was the Chief of the Powhatan tribe. They were also probably wealthy because her father was Chief.

Pocahontas had no job. She practiced the religion of the Powhatan tribe. After staying with the minister and meeting the women of the church she converted to Christianity and was baptized. She then changed her name to Rebecca. Pocahontas never discovered anything. She never was influenced. She was probably educated and studied the Powhatan ways.

Pocahontas was ten years old when she saved John Smith's life. John was forced to lay on two large stones. Two Powhatan men held clubs in their hands. They were going to kill John. Finally, Pocahontas stood in front of them. She was almost killed, too. Pocahontas stood in front of them because she loved John Smith so much that she risked her life for him. John Smith and Pocahontas were like brother and sister.

After Pocahontas converted to Christianity she fell in love and married an Englishman named John Rolfe. They had a son named Thomas and later moved to England.
