The event I am researching is the fall of Fort Ticonderoga. In 1776, the British came from Canada after a 40-mile, two month hike. Then in 1777, General Washington, on New Years Eve, attacked the British. Later in 1777, the British attacked Fort Ticonderoga. Fort Ticonderoga was built in New York.
Two more things happened in 1777, General Washington attacked the British soldiers that were camping near Fort Ticonderoga, and the British wanted to split the Northern Colonies from the Southern Colonies and Fort Ticonderoga was in the middle of them. There were two battles, and before the Colonists owned it, the British owned Fort Ticonderoga.
Another reason why one of the battles happened was because the Colonists wanted the British ammunition, which was in the fort. How it happened was the British put a cannon on top of a mountain and fired it into the fort. It was important because it was a battle in the Revolutionary War, and because it led to things like Washington crossing the Delaware River. It was good because Fort Ticonderoga was used as a warehouse, and because it forced the British to split their army. It was bad because when the British captured Fort Ticonderoga, the Colonial army lost almost all of their ammunition. The Fort Ticonderoga site was made into a museum and you can visit it even today.
