Hancock. He was a very important person.
He was the first to sign the Declaration of Independence. In 1754, John graduated from Harvard. He was 39 years old when he became famous by signing the Declaration of Independence.
John Hancock was born January 12, 1737. John Hancock was born in Braintree, Massachusetts. John Hancock grew up in Boston. John Hancock became very wealthy when his uncle died. He was 56 when he died. He died in Braintree, Massachusetts on October 8, 1793.
John was well educated. John went to Boston Latin School. After he went to Boston Latin School he went to Harvard.
After he attended school he had quite a few jobs. John Hancock worked for his uncle at the mercantile firm. He inherited a lot of money from his Uncle Thomas when his uncle died. In 1765, John Hancock was elected Boston's "selectman", which is a town official. John was elected to the house of Representatives in Massachusetts in 1766. John Hancock becomes president of the Continental Congress in 1775. Hancock serves 11 years as Massachusetts State Governor. He was the first Governor of Massachusetts.
His father died in the year 1744. John was 7 when his father died. John Hancock had a mom, a dad, an older sister and a younger brother. His Uncle Thomas was famous because he was rich from the family business which was the mercantile firm. John Hancock was Protestant.
