NORTH CAROLINA

By Zach

I studied colonial North Carolina. The colonists used to build their houses out of wood. They ate corn and meat. They grew crops and hunted the native animals. They rode in a horse and buggy.

The colony started in 1789. It was the state. The latitude of Raleigh is 36° and the longitude is 77°.

The colonists were just like normal people from back then. Some people involved in colonizing the "Tar Heel State," were King Charles I and II. Some tribes that lived there were: the Cherokees, the Catawabas, the Tuscarorans, and the Croations. The colony got it's name from the Latin word, Charles. The person who discovered it was Verrazano.

The colony is important because the climate is warm and a lot of people vacation there. The capital is Raleigh.

I hope you learned a lot about colonial North Carolina. I sure did, for instance, I never knew that Carolina means, Charles in Latin.
