P+ J:Are you aware that Mrs. Chauveau' s math class and the Senior Statistics class are conducting a study about weights of children's backpacks?
MM: I am aware. Do I know a lot of details? No, but I am aware. Mrs. Chauveau has wanted to do this for many years, but this is the first year she actually did it.
P+J: Do you have any questions about this subject?
MM: Yes, I do. Suppose if somebody 36 years old weighed 160 and somebody 17 weighed 160, should they be carrying the same amount of weight on their backpack?
P+J: We recieved some information that for every 20 lbs. of your weight you should carry up to 3 lbs. of backpack weight, but we have never actually considered the fact about the question you just asked.
P+J: Do you think it is dangerous for kids to be putting a lot of weight in their backs?
MM: I think that there is where we have to go to medical experts. It also depends on the meaning of "dangerous." It also depends on this project's outcome.
P+J: What would you do if you found out the results of the Bakpack Project were unpredicted?
MM: I would meet with the Parents' Committee and get different ideas to send the message out and get the teachers to make sure the children weren't carrying to much weight on their back.
P+J: Do you think that kids think about how much weight they put on their back?
MM: No. I don't think that kids or parents have ever thought about this subject.
