Wisdom Is Better Than Weapons of War

Long ago on a breezy summer day in a little quiet town with a tiny stream trickling alongside a wide dusty road leading into the treacherous mountains lived the strongest man in all China, Wo Da Lee. Wo was tall with big muscles on his arms and legs. He had long hair in a kew and many found that his face was frightening. Since Wo had been a young man, he had always challenged people to fight him and test their strength. Eventually Wo challenged everyone in the whole country and he always won.

One day he decided to go up to the mountains to find someone he'd never fought before because he was almost sure that he'd fought everyone except for the people who lived in the mountains. He put all his weapons into a big basket and set off to the mountains. Because he was in such a hurry to challenge others he forgot to bring along food.

It wasn't long before he reached the mountains. As he stepped into the valley of the mountains he could hear the wind blowing, making sounds as if it were people screaming for help. The shadows of the mountains hovered over him like a huge wave. Wo felt a chill go up his spine and was about to run back to his village but he held back his fear. With each step he took he looked at everything to make sure that nothing would jump out at him. Even though he was tough he was still afraid, so he started humming a tune as loud as he could. he looked around and from behind him he heard a voice.

"Who is that humming my favorite tune?"

Wo turned around quickly and saw a scraggly, frail man standing hunched over in front of him. Wo grinned a big grin to finally find someone who he could beat quickly because he was getting rather hungry after not any food. Wo spoke in a proud voice, looking around at the little bamboo trees, the soft moss clinging to the big boulders that sheltered the little man as a home,

" I am challenging you to a fight. Do you take my challenge?"

"Yes," said the little man in a high pitched squeaky voice, "But why?" continued the man.

"Because I am the strongest man in all China and I want to prove my strength to you by fighting you." Wo's big voice echoed.

"But do you think that weapons and strength is the key to winning?"

"Of course I do!" protested Wo.

"When do you want to fight?" asked Li Ling, the man who was challenged.

"NOW" responded Wo eager to get the fight over with so he could go back home to get some food.

A few minutes later, Li came out wearing a long beautiful robe. They got into position and started to fight. With the first swing of Wo's bamboo pole, Li ducked out of the way. Li, being vary smart, could see in Wo'sx face that he was hungry and couldn't get his mind off food.

"Aren't you hungry? I am." Asked Li.

"NO" Wo yelled because he was tempted.

Li picked up a bowl of rice and chopsticks that were lying on a rock for a table. Beside it was a smaller rock for a stool. Li started to eat. Li, still eating, dodged every swing Wo took. The fight went on for days and Wo got hungrier and hungrier until one day he dropped to the ground, dead. Li came out of the mountains dragging Wo behind him. When the villagers saw this, they honored Li forever and Li became a great hero of all times.

Always remember, "Wisdom is better than weapons of war."
