The Banquet

by: Kira

There once was a man who was holding a great banquet. The man had always been lazy and relied on other people for everything. He had gotten all his money and land from his father, and so he thought that he didn't have to work for anything. He was inviting all of the richest people in China to his banquet. He wanted to serve all the best food to impress all of those people. He already had a delicious fat juicy chicken and a humungous bowl of luscious shrimp, and the best wine there was. But he still needed pork. He wanted pork fit for a king. But the pig in his barnyard wouldn't do, for it was a skinny little piglet. He didn't want to go out to the country where the butcher gets his pigs ( five hours away) and lead it all the way back to his house, it would take too much time. It would also take too much of his energy. Plus, he needed to get dressed up for his guests. He also wanted to finish up a calligraphy painting that he was doing. Overall he had too much to do. He couldn't go get the pig.Since he thought that the world revolved around him, he sent his servants to go to the butcher and ask him to go where he gets his pigs and get the fattest one and bring it to the man's house ( which would take hours.) The man did not want to buy one from the butcher because he sells his meat rotten, also he thought it would probably impress his guests if he told them that his servants slaughtered the pig them self.

The servants had arrived at the the butcher's house. They told him the man's request, " He wants the fattest pig in the country , and he wants you to get it for him" The butcher refused, "What does he think that I am, a slave?'' The servants returned to the man. He was dressed in his richest finery waiting for the guests to arrive, because his banquet was in just a few hours. When he saw the servants he asked them in a nervous voice ( for he was afraid of the truth) " Where is the pig?"

The servants replied sadly, " The butcher refused."

"THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU THREATEN HIM!" The man roared, " I will now have to serve my rich guests the skinny sick piglet!" The servants rushed off to slaughter the sickly piglet.

When the guests arrived they had to eat hard, diseased pork and they never came back to the man's house again.

The moral of the story is :The ripest fruit will not fall into your mouth
