Kong the Dragon and the Evil Emperor Huang Fu

By Maël G.

Long, long ago, in a big, mountainous, lump of land now known as China, lived a nasty, greedy, emperor. His name was Huang-Fu. Each week Huang-Fu ordered his guards to go down to the village and take five people back to his palace to slave away for him. If they said, "No," they would get beaten with a long, black whip until they said, "Yes". If they never said agreed, they would be whipped to death. All the people went because they had seen one person beaten to death and had watched him scream in pain.

The villagers couldn't escape because the emperor had his army guarding the city to make sure none of the villagers got out. If the villagers tried to escape, they were beaten to death. Only one or two had ever escaped. They were the only ones who had faith in themselves. Others who had tried were killed in front of all other prisoners to show what would happen if they were caught.

Huang Fu's most dangerous and aggressive guard was Ji. Ji whipped everybody.

The villagers slaved away gathering food and acting as servants for the emperor. They were fed barely anything and slept in cold, crowded prisons with hard floors. The men, who were brave and strong, were sent to fight for the emperor, but most of them were killed in battle.

One day, a slave, named Xi Wang, said to Ji, "I'm too tired. Please let me free."

Ji got very angry and screamed, "You lazy fool. I going to give you three beatings with my whip!"

Desperately, Xi Wang screamed, "Help!" but it was no use. The pain was too much for him and he died.

There was a magic dragon, named Kong, who flew over all the land and watched for greedy, nasty, people or groups. Kong was a Dragon God and had many other dragon friends to help stop people with abusive powers.

One of Kong's friends was Hsu Chi. He had seen Ji whipping innocent slaves and had seen the death of Xi Wang. Hsu Chi flew over to Kong to report what he had seen.

Hsu Chi said, "Huang Fu is gathering villagers to work for him."

"Again!" Kong said, furiously.

"I even saw one of his guards whip an innocent old man to death," said Hsu Chi, feeling sad for the old man.

"Thank you, very much, for reporting about Huang Fu. Keep looking for more greedy people," said Kong, with hatred in his voice.

As Kong flew over the emperor's kingdom, he saw the innocent people working and some being beaten by guards. Huang-Fu had been warned not to do this before and he knew he would have consequences. Kong decided he would speak to Huang Fu in the evening and send him off to a faraway place where he deserved to be.

As night approached, all the villagers ate morsels of bread and went to sleep in the dark, cold prisons. Kong went to the prisons to free the villagers. As he approached, he saw the guards. When the guards saw Kong's huge body, they all ran away screaming in fear. Steam rose from Kong's nose and he spat fire to melt the metal.

All the villagers rushed back home to their families in joy.

Next, the Dragon approached Huang Fu's Palace. He flew inside since the doors were so wide.

"Ahhhhhh!" screamed the Emperor, in fear.

"Why did you disobey me," said Kong. "Now I will have to send you and Ji to a faraway place."

As Ji came out to see what the commotion was about, Kong started to breathe out a blue, magical, liquid-smoke. The smoke gathered around both Huang Fu and Ji and they rose into the air. They were both desperately screaming, "HELP! HELP!" Then, Ji and Huang Fu disappeared into thin air.

Now, Kong had to find a new emperor for the city. Kong decided to bring the old man, who had been beaten to death, back to life. He was the only person who Kong knew had been killed and deserved a second life.

KONG

The old man was changed and now was young and smart. Kong renamed him Hsu Chi, in honor of Kong's dragon friend who reported what had happened. Hsu Chi, the new Emperor, was kind, smart, and donated food and money to everyone in the village every month. There were no more villagers slaving away for the emperor and everyone was delighted.
