The Adviser

One day, Kublai Shen was walking down the street. The street had lots of houses with many statues on the roofs. He was on his way to the Imperial Palace. Within the Imperial City walls. He served as an adviser to the Emperor. Today was not an ordinary day though, because the Chinese were in a war with the Mongolians. Kubai Shen knew he was going to be asked hard questions like: "how should we balance out our defense?"or "where should we strike next?"

Kublai Shen was an honorable man. He had black hair and brown eyes. He had a wife and and two children. His dad had died when he was ten. His mother died last year.

The Emperor was quite an old man. He had three sons named Chin Po, Shang, and Len. They all work for there father as guards They were friends with Kublai Shen. The Emperor wife died last year.

Once Kublai Shen got to the palace the Emperor asked him "Were should we strike next?"

Then Kublai Shen replied, "Which side do you think?"

"That is what I am asking you my faithful adviser,"said the Emperor. Then then he added, "all the ways, the north? the south? the east? or the west?"

It took about an hour for Kublai Shen to choose but, eventually, he said, "we should attack from the north."

The Emperor said, "O.K."

Suddenly some Mongolians came in and grabbed Kublai Shen. The Mongolians almost captured the Emperor but the guards took him away in the nick of time.

The Mongolians took Kublai Shen deep into the forest. They threw him into a small bamboo house.

The Emperor took action. He sent his sons after the Mongolians. It was a muddy day out so the sons could see where the Mongolians went by following their tracks. They started out.

Once the Mongolians got Kublai Shen tied down, they started to asked him questions.

"What are you going to do?" asked one guard.

"Where are you going to strike?" asked another guard.

Kublai Shen would not tell them anything. Not even where he lived or the quickest way back to the palace.

The guards decided to kill him because he would not tell them anything.

Suddenly when they were about to kill him, his friends, Chin Po, Shang, and Len came in. They knocked out all the guards and untied Kublai Shen.

Kublai Shen said thank you to his friends. They went back to the palace. They all got medals for honor and bravery even Kublai Shen for not telling anything. They all lived happily ever after.

Like the Chinese proverb says: "it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness."
