Bigfoot: Myth, Hoax, or Reality?

by John Y.

This essay is intended to send a ray of light on the dark often downtrodden world of Bigfoot the colossal primate like creature . There will be many arguments, that will hopefully sway the opinion of the reader into a believer in the stories of people who have seen these ape like creatures in the beautiful pacific north west and the lofty mountains of Nepal. The first and main argument concerning the existence of Bigfoot is the footprints that have been found that some say belong to none other then Monster. The footprints range in size from sixteen to twenty eight inches, and it has been calculated that what ever made the footprints must weigh in the neighborhood of 250 to 300 pounds far greater the the average human male.. A very convincing argument that the foot prints are not faux is that when carefully inspected they reveal dermal ridges, the foots equivlent of a finger print. To create dermal ridges the person who wanted to plant the footprints would have to have an intamate knowledge of the anatomy to make such realistic replicas. Then another argument is that the footprints are found in very out of the way palces, which are far from civilization. So if they were faked the would have been made by a madman.

The famous Patterson video

The second filament of evidence is pictures and video of Bigfoot that have been taken over the years. The most controversial and most compelling evidence of Bigfoot's existence is the infamous Patterson video. It was filmed in 1967 near Bluff Creek California. By Roger Patterson an amature Bigfoot hunter and rodeo cowboy. In the video, which was filmed in a dry creek bed, Bigfoot appears to be walking along the creek bed, and at one point even stared at the camera. The footage has been analyzed many times by scientists, some of which say the footage is realistic while others do not. Several years ago Patterson in an effort to prove once and for all that his footage was real, took his film to Universal Studios so that there technicians could analyzed the footage. They were asked if the the Bigfoot was really just somebody in a costume, there reply was "We could try. But we would have to create a completely new system of artificial muscles and find an actor who could be trained to walk like that. It might be done but we would have to say that it would be almost impossible". The third piece of evidence is the eye witness accounts of people who have seen Bigfoot. People who work outdoors are the most frequent sighters of Bigfoot, and are usually described by the press as sane, sober people, who have no reason to lie about seeing Bigfoot. Many times when people see something like Bigfoot they think that they will be ridiculed by there friends and neighbors, so they keep there encounter secret for many years. Until others tell there stories. In conclusion this essay hopefully swayed the readers opinion towards that of a believer due to the compelling evidence into the reality of Bigfoot. But sadly most people are ignorant and don't believe in the existence of Bigfoot. Even if Bigfoot is just one big hoax, the myth will live on forever.
