After the War

Hannibal returned home after the war for the first time in 36 years. He became the Chief Magistrate, responsible for keeping peace between Rome and Carthage. However, some Romans couldn't stand to see Hannibal live. They said he did not want to keep peace between Rome and Carthage. Hannibal was aware of his country's fatigue, and as surprising as this sounds, he would give into Rome for the sake of avoiding the Third Punic War. Hannibal fled from Carthage escaping Roman spies for thirteen years. After 13 years, the Romans tracked Hannibal down and trapped him in his house. Hannibal knew his time had come; he committed suicide by taking a poison rather than having the Romans kill him.
