Hannibal

247-183 B.C.

One of the great generals of the ancient world, Hannibal fought against Rome in the Second Punic War for Carthage, a kingdom in North Africa. He was one of the few generals to repeatedly have success against the Romans in the field. He is best known for marching his "cavalry" of war elephants through Spain and over the Alps to invade Italy from the North.
