1W Halloween Fun!
Following the Halloween parade, the children took off their costumes and asked, “What are we going to do now?” It was explained to them that today the classroom was being turned into “Halloween Fun”. There were various centers set up around the room for the children to explore. One the chalkboard there was a bat, an apple tree, and a pumpkin. The children were to find –at words, short a words, and short u words. They were to write the word on a small bat, a small apple, or a small pumpkin and then glue it on the appropriate paper.

The children could color in Halloween pictures, do a maze, a word search, or make a Halloween bookmark.
Monster Math provided the children with many papers of math problems, some of them quite easy and some quite challenging. Each child estimated the number of candy pumpkin there were in a jar. Candy corn math gave the children the opportunity to measure with candy corn and also make patterns.

A list of Halloween words was put on the white board. The children had the opportunity to create their own Halloween story. They could read a story and do a variety of follow-up activities associated with that story. They could also select a Halloween story to curl up with on one of the window seat
As the children finished the different activities they put their work in an orange Halloween folder which they could decorate with fall stickers.
