Our India Assembly |
| Welcome to the photo scrapbook of our
assembly on India. The last few weeks we have been
working on our
unit on India. India is known for the mountain range Himalayas and
the beautiful monument Taj Mahal.
India is also known for its wildlife. The national animal of India is the tiger and the national bird is the peacock. Indian elephants can be trained to work in a circus. Today we shared some of the things that we have learned. First, the children from Miss Wolf's class did the sun salutes. This yoga exercise has 12 steps. It is usually done in the morning during the sunrise. That is why it is called a sun salute. Mrs. Vernon's class demonstrated some Yoga positions. We learned to play many different Indian games that do not need any equipment. Only a lot of friends! We showed how to play a game of langdi. There are two teams. One team tries to catch the members of the other team by hopping on one leg. We learned to say many Indian words. Namaste means hello and Dhanyawad means thank you. We learned to say many animals in Hindi. Tiger is sher, bear is bhaloo, elephant is hathi. We also learned to sing some songs in Hindi and say Grace in Marathi, In this song there are many animals - such as a sparrow, a peacock, a crow, a mouse, and a bear. We shared two of the folk dances we learned. The first dance is called Lejhim. It can be very complicated, so we demonstrated some of the basic steps. It is from Mrs. Joshi's state. The second dance is called Dandiya. It is part of Garba. This dance is from the state of Gujrath. Anvi's and Pravesh's parents come from Gujrath. Naina, a senior from the Upper School performed a classical dance from North India. We hope that you enjoy photos from our show: |
