In the primary grades it is the educators' intent to form building blocks for lifetime sports as well as support and enhance the motor development and physical stamina of the students. Students attend physical education class with a specialist four times per week for 40 minutes. Through the activities that are being taught in class it is our hope that the students will look upon fitness as being enjoyable. The activities that we focus on are: ball skills, cooperative games, dance, jumping, obstacle course, parachute, scooters, swimming, and tumbling.
The teachers work with the students to accomplish the following: improvement of gross and fine motor skills so that the students feel comfortable with their bodies; students' awareness of their physical limits while working to their full potential; and the development of social skills such as peer support, cooperation with each other, and respect for one another.
