Music Program
Second
grade students go to music everyday. They continue to add to their repertoire
of singing games, folk songs and dances of many cultures. The children will
add new rhythmic and melodic elements to their music vocabulary. Highlights
of the year include a Nigerian birthday celebration for each student and a unit
of Native American music. Special performances o
f
the year include the Winter Program, Grandparents' Day, and a visit or two to
a local retirement center.
We begin the year with a review of a "ta," "ti-ti," and rest; so, mi, and la; and the elements of form and expression. By the end of this year the children will be able to read and write music using the elements learned. During both group and individual singing the students will work to improve their singing skills and to increase their repertoire. Our hope is that the children will enjoy and appreciate a variety of styles of music and will enjoy both listening to music and creating it with others.
