As we all know, this is an election year and the second grade decided to spend some time focusing on this upcoming presidential election. We learned about what an election is as well as about the importance of voting. We also discussed who the current president is as well as whom the presidential candidates are. Then we moved on to learn about what the presidents’ job entails and the students quickly realized what a challenging job it is. They then had to think about what they would and would not like about being the president themselves. The students wrote their responses in their election booklets and when they were edited, they copied them onto a final paper titled “If I Were President…”. We also talked about what it means to campaign for president and the different ways this can be done. The students then created their own campaign buttons to go along with their “if I Were President…” papers.
