The colony I am studying is the colony of New Jersey. The people made
their houses out of trees and mud. The people ate meat, corn, wheat and
other crops. People made a living by farming.
The colony was settled by the Dutch. The Dutch started the colony in 1638. It was the 11th colony in the union. The colony was founded for religious freedom. The first settlers were farmers. There were some doctors and sailors.
In New Jersey the land is very flat except for some mountains in the northern part and islands along the coast . This colony is along the Atlantic Ocean. The latitude of Trenton is 42 degrees and the longitude is 75 degrees.
New Jersey was important because it was good for trading. The colony was named for a town in England. Two important people were William Livingston, the first governor, and Alexander Hamilton, who opened the first bank in the colony.
I hope you understand why New Jersey is important and has a good economy. Even today farming is a productive part of the economy.
