The Man Who Wanted Everything

By Rachel E.

Wu Lee went to the bank to take out 1,900 yuan to buy a beautiful couch. When he came home, his parents were still sleeping. He tried to wake them up, but only his father woke up. His mother had died that night. Chang Quan, Wu Lee's father, had spent 9,999 yuan on a custom made marble casket for his wife. She was buried at Shanghai. A week later Chang Quan died of a back injury. He was buried next his wife's burial place.

Wu Lee inherited all of the money and moved to Uncle Ming's to live, since he was only 15 years old. Wu Lee began to act very strangely and in particular, he became very greedy. Uncle Ming didn't like the way Wu Lee was treating him, so he took away Wu Lee's allowance for a week, which was 100 yuan. Wu Lee was so mad he threw the 400 year old antique brick at Uncle Ming. It missed Uncle Ming and hit the 236 year old antique mirror and it broke. Uncle Ming was so furious that he took the rest of Wu Lee's money away and said angrily: "You go live on the streets for a week and see what it feels like to have no money. I'm sick and tired of your rude behavior; go now and remember I do not want to see your face until next week.

Wu Lee lived on the streets for a week, but remained mean and greedy. He would kick dogs and beat them if they begged for food or wanted to play.
He spoke unkindly to an old wise man who simply replied to him, "Much wealth will not come if a little does not go." He decided that the way he was acting was meanly but he didn't care.

One day while he was walking, he fell and broke one of his legs, so he couldn't walk. He needed help from Uncle Ming as well as some money. He cried for help and Uncle Ming heard him but didn't come. He knew that Uncle Ming didn't come because he had been so mean to him.
He knew he didn't like being mean and nasty, so he then decided to be good and nice. He went to his Uncle Ming on Sunday and apologized for being rude, mean, ,and nasty to him and for not being considerate and kind. Uncle Ming accepted his apology and became very close with him. He soon became well known for his generosity and friendliness.

"Much wealth will not come if a little does not go."
