April and June

based on the Chinese proverb

"Beauty is only skin deep"

by Lizzy S.

One day, in the small town of Yushu, the Boarding School for Young Women did not know they were in for such a surprise. They didn't know April and June were on their way. April was a very beautiful young lady, with long flowing blond hair, and always wore the latest fashion. Her only fault was that April, was not kind at all, some might even call her a brat. April's inside was the exact opposite as her outside. On the outside April looked like an angel, but on the outside she was a monster waiting to attack.

June was not as beautiful and blended into the crowd, but she had the most generous hart god could ever give.

When the two girls arrived everybody crowded around April marveling at her beauty. Instead of saying thank you, April just smiled and said, "I know don't you just wish you had my beauty!" In all of this commotion June just walked away heading towards a teacher to ask where her room was, nobody even noticed she was gone. June was sorry to here that she was roommates with April and one other girl named Sarah. After sitting on the bus it April all the way to the school, June knew what April was really like. While June was walking to her room she could hear everybody hassling to be near April, June just sighed and turned away.

After a pleasant night's rest all of the girls had a calligraphy lesson. April sat in the front row and ignored all of the other girls trying to sit in the same row as herself. June also sat in the front, but after she saw a younger schoolgirl, sit down very unhappily in the back row June offered to switch seats. The young girl said thank you, and sat down telling her friends about this generous girl. During calligraphy the teacher gave them characters to write, April wrote them perfectly and had beautiful brush strokes. Both the teachers and the students complemented her beautiful work, but April ignored them all and kept writing.

The next subject was religion, and the students were learning about Buddha. While the teacher was talking April would interrupt and share stories of her journeys to different museum's f Buddhism. June was paying attention, but then she saw one of her classmates having trouble tying her shoes, so June decided to help out and tie the shoes.

The rest of the day went the same; April would be perfect at doing this and that. June wouldn't be as perfect, but find some way to help every time. That night was another peaceful night, until April hears Sarah crying, April looks over and can see that Sarah has a large, and very deep gash on her leg. Sarah moans for April to help, but April calmly and slowly wakes June up and shows her what has happened. June hops out of bed as quickly as possible and runs for one of her shirts to cover the wound and try to stop the bleeding. While doing this she tells April to hold the shirt while she goes to get an adult. April refuses saying if you were as beautiful as I am you would know you need your beauty rest. June then tell Sarah what to do while she gets an adult. When the teacher arrived Sarah was carried to the nurse and June could go to sleep.

The next day was the same as usual, but everyone must've heard what had happened the night before, because now everybody was trying to sit near June.
