Based on the Chinese proverb: " friendships multiply joys and divide griefs."
Once their was a girl named Lily who lived in Linahi that is on the East China Sea. Lily lived with her grandmother, who she caller po-po, which is Chinese for grandmother, her mom , her dad and, her little sister named April.Lily was not much like her sister, for she was selfish. Lily's mother and father were very busy, so the two children usual went to their po-po for advice. Lily and her sister had black hair and brown eyes. The selfish Lily only had one friend. She did this because she felt that the more friends she had the more she would have to do with them. Also the more she would have to spend on them. Lily probably thought this was a good idea. She did all of this because she was selfish. Her sister thought this was terrible. April kept trying to talk Lily out of it, but she would not listen.Sometimes Lily felt that she did not have as much fun as her sister. Lily thought she knew why but would not admit it .
One day when Lily was eating a lunch of rice, a typical food served at lunch and diner, with her friend, Her po-po questioned " How come I only see you with one friend?"
Lily replied " That is because I only have one." Lily stopped talking, because she knew that if her po-po found why she had done this, her po-po would make her change.
As Lily expected Her po-po asked" Why?" her po-po was curious.
Lily replied as any girl her age would, when they did not want to tell something " Because." Her po-po tried to get more out of her, but she was interrupted by Lily's friend getting picked-up by her friends mom on a bicycle, which were the main mode of transportation.
The next day Lily got in a lot of trouble for disrespecting their towns Buddhist leader. Lily felt so much grief, so she asked her po-po for advise. Her po-po simply said this proverb " Friendships multiply joys and divide griefs." Her po-po had planned to tell Lily this before. At first Lily did not see how this would help her, than she realized that she should make more friends. And Lily did just that, she made lots of friends, with practically everyone she met. Soon she was having much more fun than ever. Later when she did something wrong, she realized that she felt much less grief. And all because she had more friends to talk to.
When her po-po saw her with more friends she commented " I see, you have found the true meaning of my proverb."
She replied "Yes, po-po I have."
The End
