My Trip To China Town

"Hey, Billy, Guess
what!" I yelled across the classroom.
"What?" he snapped
back at me.
Billy and I, John, are in
the 2nd grade, and we are in the same class, Mrs. Hoff's. We are
both 7 years old.
"I'm going to America"
I replied, taunting him a little bit.
"So," he replied.
"Its not like I want
to go there."
"Yea, right,"
he mumbled.
I was lying, of course.
I wanted to go to America, so badly, but I couldn't hide it. You
see, I've never been out of China. I was born in Beijing and have
stayed there ever since. On the other hand, Billy had been to
numerous countries. So he thought nothing of it.
The whole class rushed to the doorway as the teacher told us it
was the end of the school year and to have a great summer break.
As Billy and I ran home
he shouted to me, "See you soon!"
"O.K." I replied.
When I got home my mom told
me to go get changed and pack up. I moaned and groaned about doing
this, but she somehow got me to do it anyway.
"Paw Paw will be arriving
soon at the imperial government building," she instructed
me.
"Isn't that the big
Pagoda?" I asked.
"Yes, we'll pick her
up in about twenty minutes, so pack quickly," she answered.
"O.K." I replied.
I ran up the stairs and into my room.
When I was finished packing
we rushed to the airport, but my paw paw slowed us down.
The trip was long and boring. The captain was a real prankster
and told us that we were going to crash.
When we got to San Francisco
we ate at a Mexican restaurant called El Maracho's Desert. I liked
the food a lot.
America was so different
from China. It was louder and people seemed to be in such a rush.
People would bump into you for no reason. Already I didn't like
America, but then we went to Chinatown. It was horrible. It was
nothing like China. It wasn't even a mirror image of China, The
only good thing was their food.
We spent three miserable
days and finally I couldn't hold it in any longer. "Mom,
I hate it here! It's nothing like China, but yet they name it
Chinatown!"
My paw paw stood there in
shock.
"I warned you John,
I told you there's no place like home," she said quietly.
