Let
Every Bird Sing Its Own Note
by Katie M
Once there
lived a family, by the name of Chang. They lived in the city of
Shanghai. The father Wu Chang, was a pharmacist as was his father,
and grandfather and so on and so on. It was a tradition that the
oldest son in each family would become a pharmacist. The oldest
son in this family was named Chung. Chung loved helping people
, and making peolple feel better, which wasn't hard to do since
there are over 10 million people in Shanghai.
Today was Chung's 20th birthday . He had come home to have dinner
with his family which included, his Grandfather (Ching Chang),
his grandmother (Ming Chang), his Father (Wu Chang), his Mother
(Lu Chang), his little sister (Wung Chang), and his little brother
(Han Chang). They sat down to a dinner of rice and sweet and sour
chicken on a porcelain plate. Since it was Chung's 20th birthday
his mother gave him a big bowl of noodles.
"Xie xie," thanked Chung.
It was getting late and soon everyone was sleeping except for
Chung and his Father.
"Now that you are 20 it's time for you to take over,"
Wu said.
"Take over what?" Chung replied.
"The business of course."
"But I don't want to."
The fight went on and on, until Chung stormed out the door, for
he wanted to be a doctor. Wu stormed upstairs waking his Mother,
Ming. He told her about the fight, but all she told him was to
"Let every bird sing its own note."
Wu was puzzled but then under-stood. He should let Chung go his
own direction and not follow in his footsteps.
Eventually, Chung came home to his Pagoda, and he and his father
made an agreement. Chung could be a doctor, only if when his patients
needed medicine they would go to his Father. And they lived happily
ever after.
