A long time ago in Eastern China there was a short, scrawny, boy named Tang. He always whispered bad things about other people to his friends. One of his friends, Wong, told a villager and he told another one and she told another one. Soon the whole country side had heard this bad thing. Every one hated him. No one would talk or play with him.
After a few months of this, Tang felt so badly that he decided to run away. "Now let's see how they feel when they do not have me," Tang sobbed as he looked back at the village. He ran through the deep dark woods all night until Tang came to a beautiful, clear pond where he spent the night. In the morning, just as Tang woke up, a monstrous dragon appeared, with scales of gold and teeth like daggers. When Tang tried to get a closer look he flew off like a bolt of lightning straight into the sky. Tang was so startled that he screamed.
The next day Tang saw bright orange flames rising into the sky where the village was. He ran down the dirt path and as he did, the villagers came running by screaming that a dragon was destroying their homes. The dragon stopped breathing fire and asked Tang why he was not running with the rest of the people. When Tang told the dragon that he was going to capture him he just laughed.
"What are you laughing about? You just met your match."
"Oh, is that so?" the dragon yelled as he shot a burst of fire at Tang. Tang shot off like a bolt into the woods and the dragon gave chase. After a short time the dragon gave up because Tang was a very fast runner. As he was running along the path Tang ran into a group of hunters from his own village. When Tang told the hunters about what was going on they did not believe him. Tang was on his own.
He built a trap and called for the dragon. The dragon came and quickly got his foot stuck in the trap and was pulled high in to the trees. Tang said he would let the dragon go if he gave him ten of his golden scales and would never again hurt another person.
When Tang went home again, he became a hero to the people of his village. His family became rich. From then on they lived a happy life. The dragon wanted to start helping people so he became the emperor's servant.
So remember...
"A word whispered in the ear can be heard for miles."
The End
